Birthday Spirit

Today is not so easy…It’s the first time I can’t physically hug Al and kiss him as I say to him, “Happy Birthday!” And one of the thoughts that I keep trying to shove back is that the anniversary of his birth is so close to the anniversary of his death. I guess that’s part of the complexity of life.

While still swimming in the stream of grief, I’m continuing the work of forward movement and the healing of my heart, soul and mind. And in my admitted struggle to make this a good day, I chose to start the goodness of this day by calling my dear cousin, whose birthday is also today. Al and I talked with him together last year, and we shared laughter and the joy of their birthday together. So, I brought Al’s spirit with me on the call to my cousin today…and we shared sweet laughter and celebrated this day.
