Today I read a post on Facebook (by Mr. Pemon Rami) about the reality of the emotional experiences of Life…and I agree with it. My life has constantly and drastically changed due to continuous emotional experiences, and the only thing I can do about it is to keep moving forward. I can always choose to stop moving forward, but I won’t ever do that. In my years of living, I have learned (and I’m still learning) that forward movement is the “Medicine of Life” …GROWTH. And, as Human Beings, we should never stop growing. As an Elder, I feel a responsibility to exhibit and share my growth, not just my age. And that means sometimes exposing my own vulnerability and even my ignorance and willingness to learn from the knowledge of the younger generation of people who are fortunate enough to be exposed to and learn from experiences that I might never have, except through their sharing with me.
We are not all equipped with the same kind of courage - that ability to step out in front of a crowd and speak, direct or lead. But we can all still offer our input and assistance in whatever way we can (even from our bed or chair). And while some will say, “Step outside of your comfort zone!”, that is for some, sometimes easier said than done. At this point and place in my life, due to my current personal experiences, I am not able or even ready to step outside of my “comfort zone”. But I can still recognize and applaud the important and inspirational work of 2 Elders who are standing together in the public arena to keep pushing us all (especially the youth) forward - Mr. Pemon Rami and his beautiful Queen of a Wife, Masequa Myers. I have been following their Facebook thread for some time, when time would allow, and have always been inspired by them to write my own story. That is the constant message I have received from them…”Write Your Own Story!” And most times when I’ve seen images of them, they’re surrounded by young people. But I want them to know that they have been, and continue to be an inspiration to this Elder, who will continue to write my own story. And even though I can’t clearly see my way through the tunnel of progression, I will continue, finish and present my story…It’s never too late.
Thank you, Pemon and Masequa, for continuing to encourage and exhort us to write our own stories and share them with the world, so that we won’t be written out of The Story of Humanity...APPLAUDING!
